As I take a look back on this first week, I know that I have been more than fortunate. B and I have been able to communicate almost everyday as of now, even if only for a minute or two. Although my morning is his night, and my night is his morning, we have been able to find a way to make it work. I worried about the time difference as the current location B has made it to is 12 hours and 30 minutes ahead. Yes, they're on the half hour, quite odd indeed. But when talking with a fellow spouse about my worries of the difference in time she was quick to ease my mind as she reminded me that at least when we're awake we will know that they are sleeping, safely. Now what will this do for my rest at night? Time will only tell. As of now, I spend the nights clock watching with the constant checking of my phone in fear of missing a message or call. I pray that as B becomes settled in his final location we will be able to figure out the communication situation and have a more set schedule, which I have faith will allow for easier nights on my end. But then I have to remind myself, this is the Army. There will always be constant change.
After being off from work for a few days before and after B left, I went back in on Monday morning. It has definitely helped to make the days go quickly as we are swamped with the planning of our upcoming baseball season and I have now started up a new program at one of the Child Development Centers here on post. I have been enjoying my time with the kiddos as that is one thing I have missed with my current job. Yes, our program is a YOUTH program, but unfortunately we deal with the parents more than we do with the kids themselves.
On top of work, Volleyball has kept me more than busy this week. We played 4 games in 3 days, all of which were exhausting, coming down to the 3rd game of each match. Let's just say, after last night, I was beat and more than ready to just collapse as I got home.
In the home front, Duke has done a lot better than I had expected. The first few days were spent searching every door after I would come in, in hopes of his "daddy" following in behind me. This was difficult for me as it was just a constant reminder that it's going to be quite sometime before we see him walk through those doors again. Other than that, Duke has been keeping me constantly on my toes as he's had a few run-ins with the "melting snow", better known as MUD. As you could imagine, I've been scrubbing lots of Duke paws out of the carpet and going through lots of towels having to now dry him every time he comes back in the house.
He knew exactly what he had done...
MUG SHOT??
...I promise I won't do it again.
Now that we have made it through the first week, we can look ahead and only hope that time will continue to quickly pass by. I know that keeping busy will be a must, which I believe I've been successful at thus far.
Love and Strength,
Lindsey
