A "Berry" Good Day!

First off, we've made it 4 months through this deployment as of today!! It's crazy to think that it's already been that long since B left Alaska, but then again, some days it feels like it's been so much longer. But we are always excited to celebrate the milestones, this one being we are 1/3 of the way done!

Skyping for the 2nd time since he's been gone! :) Love being able to see he's still him same 'ol goofy self!

Today a friend and I were able to spend the only 3 hours of the day that it was NOT raining to go out and enjoy some berry picking, raspberries that is. When we had first got to the farm, a gentleman was weighing his and his wife's berries, which came out to a total of 11 pounds. At this point the husband had yelled to his wife while still picking, that she was cut off. My friend and I looked at each other and we had to laugh as we thought "these people are crazy." Little did we know, we would soon be those "crazy people." We started off slowly as we walked row to row reaching in for berries. It was at the point when we had almost each reached the halfway point of our gallon milk jugs that we realized we were determined to fill the entire jug. We continued picking as hours had passed realizing that we were now "those people." As we would reach the end of each row we would say we were done as it seemed that it was just impossible to fill the jug. And then we'd see another bush that looked plentiful and we'd dart towards it. Finally as we began to see the clouds rolling back in we decided it, unfortunately, had to be the time to stop. We made our way to the weigh station, only to realize we each had 4.5 pounds of raspberries, for a grand total of 9 pounds between the two of us! I'm going to freeze the majority of them as I am looking forward to some delicious eats for the months to come! Maybe there will even be some left to enjoy with B when he makes his way home in a few months! ;)

Don't they look delicious?! And you bet we were eating plenty as we picked! I mean, we had to make sure we knew which ones were the good ones! :)

And since it has been awhile since I have last blogged and updated there has been a lot happening. Life has stayed busy with work for sure! In updated work news, as of this past week, I have been detailed to a new position where I will work for up to 90 days with the EDGE program here on post. I am really excited for the opportunity to be able to try something different and see if it is something I would like to do long term, if so, when the position becomes open, I can apply for it, just as anyone else can. If not, I will just return to the Sports program. This move will be bittersweet as I really do enjoy my job I do now and I will miss seeing all of my favorite families, but I am looking forward to learning all of the new tasks that will come with the new, not so permanent, position I will have.

This past week was also one of my favorite kiddo's birthdays! I was fortunate to be able to join him at the daycare for a little birthday celebration!

Happy 4th Birthday DeWight! It's been fun to be able to watch him grow and learn over the past year and I am thankful to have him in my life. He always knows how to put a smile on my face and melt my heart!

In Duke news, I took him to the vet a few weeks ago and he weighed in at 87.2 pounds! He looks awesome and is loving our daily walks! B wasn't too enthused since Duke was about 8-9 more pounds when he left back in April. He swears I'm not feeding him enough and depriving him, but I know he's only teasing...sometimes!

Until next time, and I promise it to be sooner than the last time, Happy August!

Love and Strength,
Lindsey
